Clayz is a small, independent pottery studio tucked away in a garden in Widnes, Cheshire.
It's a place to slow down, get your hands messy and have a go at making something for yourself.
Pottery is at the heart of Clayz, but it's about much more than clay. It's about creativity, confidence, having fun, learning something new and enjoying the satisfaction of making something with your own hands.
Whether you're completely new to pottery or already love getting creative, you're welcome at Clayz.
Hi, I'm Clare
I'm the person behind Clayz.
By day, I'm a pharmacist and senior university lecturer, as well as a Lay Reader Minister. I've also been making things for as long as I can remember, and I've been working with clay for more than three years.
Making things has always been my happy place. I love the process of starting with a lump of clay, experimenting, getting things slightly wrong, trying again, and eventually ending up with something I'm genuinely proud of.
I've had my own ceramic pieces included in exhibitions, but Clayz isn't about being perfect or producing work like a professional potter. It's about having a go.
Pottery with personality
You'll notice that nature and wildlife pop up quite a lot at Clayz.
Frogs, cats, birds, sheep and all sorts of other creatures inspire many of the things I make, and you'll find that playful, slightly quirky spirit throughout the studio.
Clayz is growing too. Alongside pottery workshops, I'm developing new creative activities, children's and teen sessions, parties, handmade ceramics, craft workshops and, eventually, creative wellbeing and retreat experiences. So this is only the beginning.
